MICHAEL D. PUGH
Michael D. Pugh has over thirty years of CEO experience in hospitals, health care systems, managed care organizations, consulting and health care services companies.
Mr. Pugh is a nationally known advisor and consultant to healthcare provider organizations, payer organizations and government agencies focusing on issues of quality, performance, strategy and governance. He is a senior faculty member for the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) and currently is the Vice Chair of the Leadership Faculty. He is a co-author of the IHI published and highly popular white paper, "Seven Leadership Leverage Points for Organization-Level Improvement in Healthcare."
Since 1998 Mr. Pugh has focused his consulting and advisory practice on helping senior leaders define and execute strategies for improvement and organizational transformation. Specific areas of expertise include clinical integration, quality system planning and execution, governance processes, leadership system development and strategic planning.
Mr. Pugh is a Board member of Verisma Systems, Inc., a national healthcare information handler (HIH) and health information technology company. Verisma provides business services and patented information technology to providers and requestors enabling the efficient and HIPAA compliant release of requested medical information. From 2004 until 2011 Mr. Pugh served as the company's CEO leading the start-up and early growth phases of the company.
Mr. Pugh has been active in health care leadership and has served on the boards of the American Hospital Association, the AHA Health Forum and the Colorado Hospital Association and the JCAHO. He is a frequent speaker at regional and national conferences on subjects of leadership, governance, strategy and quality.
Mr. Pugh holds a B.S. and an M.P.H. in Health Care Administration from Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana and is the author of multiple articles and book chapters on quality and governance. He resides in Southern Colorado where he can routinely pursue his passions of fly fishing, mountain biking and skiing.
