BILL G. FELKEY
Auburn University's Professor Emeritus of Healthcare Informatics, Bill G. Felkey, received his B.A. in Psychology and Communication from the University of Maine and his M.S. in Instructional Systems Technology from Indiana University. His research interests focus on the creation of knowledge-bases and the use of advanced technology in healthcare for all disciplines and specialties.
Professor Felkey was born in Nagoya, Japan and Auburn has been his professional home since 1977. He provides highly interactive educational sessions that will amaze, inform, entertain and overwhelm you with the wealth of technological resources that are available to you to increase your impact on outcomes and extend your organizational efficiency and effectiveness.
From a list of over a dozen awards, he is the founding editor of Computer Medicine for the Hospital Pharmacist. In 1992, he was the winner of the International Interactive Communication Society, Best Interactive Program, "About Your Diabetes". Bill co-developed PHOCUST (Pharmacist Opportunities in Compliance Using Skills Training) which received the H.A.B. Dunning Award in 1993 by the American Pharmaceutical Association. His other professional accomplishments include the Most Outstanding Faculty Member of the School of Pharmacy for 1996, and in 1997, he received the Auburn University Outreach Ward for Excellence. In 2004, Bill was selected as the favorite seminar speaker of pharmacists in a national survey conducted by Drug Topics. He was favored over Colin Powell, Rudi Giuliani, and Dick Cheney.
Professor Felkey has secured or assisted in delivering over five million dollars of funded research while at Auburn. He has presented and published over 1200 papers and presentations on the topics of computers, health system informatics. He demonstates effective and efficient use of technology in medical, nursing and pharmacy practice as well as enterprise positioning for health systems that address a broad range of management and technology issues in healthcare. His students call him Professor Gadget for a reason you will understand when you hear him present and Bill says when you meet him, you will have met the guy who dies with the most digital toys.
Professor Felkey will show you how to strategically position your organization for integration of the connectivity offered by the Internet and wireless networks. He consults regularly with health systems, computer vendors, and with the wholesale drug and pharmaceutical industry. He has presented to professional audiences in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and over a dozen foreign countries and is a frequent speaker in board of trustee meetings.
Bill is married to the former Judy Hayes. They have two adult sons and enjoy snow skiing, road cycling, tennis, scuba diving, competitive shooting, and international travel.
